experimental book :)

For my experimental book i was going to have it assending using fishing wire but by an accident i came up with a different idea. I decided to lay the accetate and letter circles out on the table. This gave it more of a mystery look to it because you really had to use the magnifying glass to find some of the letters. Now my book has more of a scattered messy look  where everything is unpredictable/unclear to the reader at first up until you use the magnifying glass to find what you are looking for.

contexual work on handmade books !!!!!

Experimental book : part 2

For my experimental book i was going to make a book out of rope. This came from the story when the characters got kidnapped in the book. I sewed the pieces of rope together bit by bit but then i realised this wouldnt work :(

Soooo instead i brainstormed again and i came up with the idea of using a magnifying glass and cutting out circular shapes goin smaller each time. I used cardboard for this but then i decided  to use perspex instead for the final piece. I am going to stick words(key moments from the book) on to the circular discs and at the very end iam going to put the words 'no time for goodbye' at the real end. This idea is coming from my theme of mystery throughout the book. In all of Linwwod Barclays books the end is very unpredictable , this is what iam trying to get across in my experimental book. The only way to make out the very end of the story is through the magnifying glass. I want to make this book very mysterious and unpredictable similar to the real book. So tomorrow iam going to cast the shape of a magnifying glass and super glue a lens in to it.

Hopefully this will be a success! will be documenting with photos as i go along.! :) cya

drafts before final book cover :)

Final book cover:

contexual studies : Agatha christy

Famous thriller and mystery writer:

Agatha Christie, DBE, (15 September 1890 – 12 January 1976), was a British crime writer of novels, short stories, and plays. She also wrote romances under the name Mary Westmacott, but she is best remembered for her 80 detective novels—especially those featuring Hercule Poirot and Miss Jane Marple—and her successful West End theatre plays.

I like the simplicity of the broken glasses , her ideas are similar to mine ( the clock wth no hands) . The idea of the broken glasses proves there is some destruction going to take place within the book.

Ranking:

we were given our brief on illustrating a interesting book cover for our chosen book. I was delighted at this because the book cover for 'No time for goodbye' is so misleading and boring. When i was given this book by my mum a few months back i didnt expect it to be so bloody and so fictional. My interpretation from looking at the cover of this book was a story that was sad. Little did i know how twisted it would get.
The writer is very talented in the way he captures the suspense and mystery in this book. This book was in no way predictable. From the heading 'NO TIME FOR GOODBYE' i visualised many images in my head.  I decided on three very relevant images for this book cover , that involved an egg timer , a clock with no hands (that i found in my home town) and a grave stone.

These were the images i chose. I felt the egg timer and the clock with no hands was the strongest to work with. I decided to fill the egg timer with red like blood to indicate that the characters in this book were working against time. However they never seemed to make it in time and blood was always spilt  similar to the blood being spilt into the egg timer.  I decided to improve on the idea of the clock with no hands by adding a knife and blood to show how time is against them .. 'time is bleeding'.  I like this idea because unlike the original book cover it shows the viewer exactly what they want . This is the blood and violence, which is all associated with the idea of a thriller.  Theres no sutlety to my book cover it shows the reader exactly what they are looking for.
